Port St. Lucie air conditioning repair is not a luxury. In fact, in Florida, it’s a necessity as temperatures can often rise above 100 degree Fahrenheit. Having your AC break down in the middle of summer is often an emergency situation. On top of that, the humidity can make you sweat a lot making you extremely uncomfortable. We understand that if your AC unit is broken, you want it fixed now and you want a fair price for the AC repair.
Here is a list of common cooling problems:
The AC does not turn on
This could be a simple thermostat problem. If your AC does not turn on, try replacing the batteries in your thermostat. Also, while you are at it, double check the thermostat settings to make sure it’s set on a cool temperature. It must be set to “Cool” and the fan should be set on “Auto”. The “Auto” fan setting insures that the fan only runs when needed instead of continuously. Next, check the circuit breaker to see if a fuse has tripped. If the AC breaker has flipped off and flipping the breaker to the “on position” doesn’t work, you might need to replace the breaker or call a repair man. It’s not common, but it’s also possible that a rodent or other pest has somehow damaged the wiring.
Tip: In south Florida, we recommend that you use anti rusting coating for all your AC equipment to prevent rusting and corrosion.
The AC is blowing warm instead of cool air –
If your AC is not blowing cold air, the first thing to do is to check your filter, which is often inside your furnace as the air blows through the furnace on to the vents in your home. Home heating and cooling filters need to be replaced at least twice a year, depending on how much dirt and debris is in the air around your home. It’s very logical. When dirt clogs up the filter, the air can’t flow through it anymore. And of course, if you are not getting cool air through your vents, make sure you check the thermostat settings.
The air is not cold enough -
Of course, make sure your windows are closed. But, the most common reason for air not cooling is due to a refrigerant leak. The refrigerant uses liquid nitrogen to create the cooling effect. When the refrigerant leaks out, your AC unit can’t cool the environment. When this happens, it’s time to call an HVAC technician to fix the problem.
The AC unit is making strange noises -
If you unit is making unusual noises, there is probably a problem with a motor or the relay. In this case, turn your AC off so it doesn’t get damaged further. Then call a licensed AC repair technician.
Check the outside unit, the big box with an exhaust fan, connected to the outside of your home. Make sure the unit is not clogged with dirt, leaves or other debris. It’s really best to get have a technician come out once a year to provide what’s called a “clean and check” to clean the unit and make sure everything is running properly.
Call a professional -
You should not try to fix the AC unit unit yourself. You can replace batteries, clean filters and remove debris. But for everything else, we recommend that you give us a call so you receive the professional help of a Port St. Lucie HVAC technician. Trying to repair it yourself will void the warranty! You could also make things worse. Messing with electrical equipment can be extremely dangerous. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
